Discovery Museum volunteers

Become a part of the Discovery Museum team! Volunteers are a vital part of museum operations.

    Museum Docents: As a Discovery Museum docent you can participate in one or more of the following duties: Greet visitors at the front desk of the museum and assist visitors with the purchase of Explore Store merchandise. Help children and families interact with exhibits in the museum. Lead programs for school groups. Be an on-going assistant for regular museum programs. Assist with Discovery Museum outreach events in the community.
    Exhibit Design: Have you ever wanted to help create exhibits for kids? Become a part of the exhibit design team and build new museum exhibits!
    Intern: Receive internship credit through Humboldt State for your work at the Discovery Museum. Internship projects are flexible depending on your field of interest.
    Board Member: As a Discovery Museum board member you can help make decisions that affect the current and future operations of the museum. Help shape the future of the museum by running for the Board of Directors.

Museum volunteers should be able to volunteer at least 5 hours/month. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Hours are flexible to meet your schedule. All museum volunteers receive:

  1. Annual family membership (Asteroid) to the Discovery Museum
  2. 10% discount on Explore Store merchandise
  3. Invitation to volunteer social events
  4. Recognition at our annual Volunteer Recognition Event
  5. Professional enrichment through regular seminars at the museum led by experts in their fields (Topics may include: How to communicate meaningfully with visitors, Working with the preschool age child, Local history and cultures, Project WILD certification, Project Learning Tree certification, CPR/First Aid certification)
